Winston-Salem based Windsor Jewelers will host a visit by renowned jewelry designer Charles Krypell on May 16 and 17. Krypell began designing noteworthy pieces of jewelry more than 30 years ago and has cultivated a following of international collectors who wear Krypell’s jewelry as objects of art.
Guests will be able to view Krypell’s newest designs and meet the designer. Windsor Jewelers is located at 526 South Stratford Road in Winston-Salem.
“I’ve known Charles for many years. As a designer, an artist and a personality, he is among the most unique people I’ve ever met,” said Rob Simon, owner of Windsor Jewelers. “It’s always exciting to meet a designer of his caliber and fun to see his fans discuss his latest pieces. He’s rare find in the jewelry designer world because, unlike many other gifted designers, he loves to meet and interact with customers.”
Krypell will highlight some of his most important jewelry, including rare pink and yellow diamonds, ranging in price from hundreds to hundreds-of-thousands of dollars. Krypell, a native of New York, studied sculpture before venturing into the artistry of the jewelry world. While attending Pratt Institute, famous for producing many renowned artists, Krypell began to make his mark on the direction and design of many collections of jewelry.
The designer’s latest collection is Sterling by Krypell, which has the advantage of lower price points, while enjoying the same compelling artistry, with prices starting from $190. These pieces are accented by pastel quartz, diamonds, yellow and rose gold. Krypell revels in the thought that he has collectors, not customers.

Great film at a/perture for Creative/Working Moms screens Sunday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 23.
.
You’re invited to the premiere Piedmont Triad showings of “Who Does She Think She Is?,” a documentary that explores age-old struggles of career moms. A panel featuring local women will follow each of the screenings.
The two screenings and forums will take place at a/perture cinema (311 W. Fourth St., W-S) on Sunday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, May 23, at 8 p.m. (Forum immediately after the film.) $10 admission includes the film and forum and can be purchased in advance (www.aperturecinema.com). Audience members can participate in the forum.
The film Who Does She Think She Is? examines and celebrates women’s struggles and triumphs over issues of parenting and work, partnering and independence, economics and art. The documentary follows five women artists as they navigate the economic, psychological, and spiritual challenges of making work alongside making a home and tending a family. (www.whodoesshethinksheis.net)
The panels that follow the screenings take the national documentary and put a local, broader spin on it by highlighting a panel of local career moms—in fields as varied as fitness to finance, writing to real estate—who will tell their stories, share their burdens and visions, and empower one another.

Yoga Music Party at the Yoga Gallery
with Wynne Paris
Friday, April 27, 8-9:30 p.m.
Wynne Paris blends an eastern Heart and a western Head for a great mix.” – Krishna Das
Wynne Paris will lead call-and-response chanting (kirtan) on Friday night, April 27, 8-9:30 pm
Wynne spent most of his twenties playing rock guitar and singing the blues at nightclubs around Washington, DC. It was Yoga that gave Wynne a new voice , a new instrument, and a new venue in which to use them. The new voice: kirtan chanting, ( the call-and-response singing of Bhakti yoga) ; the new instrument: Sarod (a 26-string, sitar-like instrument from India); the new venue: yoga centers.
The practice of yoga also introduced Wynne to the celebrated chanter, Krishna Das. Now a long-time collaborator with yoga’s most famous musician, Wynne has performed with Krishna Das at such venues as the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York; the Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York City – the largest yoga center in the U.S.; and Yogaville, the Satchidanda Ashram in Virginia, where Lynn met him several years ago.
One of the oldest sacred music traditions in the world, kirtan calls on energies that quiet the mind, remove obstacles, and bring us to the center of our being.
Wynne is now a world beat artist/producer and musician who has spent the last decade devoted to an emerging genre of spiritual music: Yoga music and Kirtan. Wynne’s artistic sound is derived from 20 years of musical adventures and spiritual experiences.
Cost $15, $10 for seniors and students with ID, $5 for children 12 and under. For more information, call Lynn at (336) 655-7047.

Six months after releasing its Visionary Master Plan and Design Guidelines for downtown Winston-Salem roadway infrastructure projects, including the replacement of 11 bridges along Business 40, Creative Corridors Coalition announced it is searching for a full-time Executive Director.
Organized in 2009, the Creative Corridors Coalition a citizen-based nonprofit, seeks to influence the overall artistry and design of future Winston-Salem infrastructure, roadway and bridge replacement projects and increase connectivity within the city. The Coalition is led by a voluntary board of community leaders with an Executive Committee responsible for primary governance. The new Executive Director will become the chief executive officer of Creative Corridors Coalition.
Since completing its Visionary Master Plan and Design Guidelines in October 2012, Creative Corridors is working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the City of Winston-Salem to assess what is feasible prior to the engineering and construction phase that will take place during the next several years.
The candidate is required to have a bachelor’s degree or higher, although no specific education field is required. However, the Executive Director must possess skills, knowledge and qualities to successfully meet the requirements of the position. Successful candidates will be able to engage and convene others in a process of exploration and dialogue. The Executive Director needs to be an interdisciplinary and creative thinker who can be innovative as well as pragmatic. The Executive Director will be an enabler and facilitator who will have the strength of character and conviction to work with a strong, engaged Board that is dedicated to the mission of the Creative Corridors Coalition.
A full job description and posting can be found at http://www.creativecorridors.org. Interested candidates should email a resume and cover letter to info@creativecorridors.org. Candidates must apply by April 30, 2012.

Old Salem Museums & Gardens will offer a one-week, hands-on summer camp called “Five Yesterdays,” a one-of-a-kind learning program for rising third through eighth graders. Four one-week sessions will be offered from June 25 through July 20, 2012, Monday through Friday, and will run from 9 a.m. to noon. The camp is located at the Single Brothers’ Workshop at 10 W. Academy Street in Winston-Salem, NC.
These hands-on summer sessions will concentrate on the crafts, trades and lifestyles of the Moravians who lived in Salem in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Children will learn history while strengthening their listening, critical thinking, and social skills. Activities, including working with textiles, pottery, woodworking, hearth cooking, and other early American skills and trades, are carefully planned according to age and ability, ensuring that every child benefits from the program. Activities are different each year and for each grade level. The week culminates with a Lovefeast at Home Moravian Church every Friday, during which children will wear traditional Moravian dress.
Camp sessions are divided by age and offered on the following dates:
Grades 6-8
June 25 – 29, 2012
Grades 3-5
July 2 – 6, 2012
July 9 – 13, 2012
July 16 – 20, 2012
Registration is $175 per child or $140 for current members of Friends of Old Salem. A registration form is available online: http://www.oldsalem.org/summer-camps.
